on a cow elk would it be better to shoot her in the head ? or stick to the lung heart area?im thinking head shot now tracking

i would say a head shot is the best shot.you wont damage any meat that way.i think a heart and body shot is just a larger shot area and head shot are not practiced because it is a much harder shot.i think its more ethical because it a faster death.body shots take longer and has more suffering.jmo

If you double lung any animal it will die pretty quick. If you blow the snout off an elk then you are going to cause it quite a bit of suffering. The actual brain on an elk is about the same size as it's heart. Try for the heart and get a good lung shot if you miss. JMO

I have to say, my choice is to put an arrow (I shoot archery) into the boiler room. Even with a riffle, I have to thing that a heart and lung shot is a much better choice. Hit low enough into the chest to get the lungs and heart, there will not be much damage to the meat, and the animal will expire very quickly.
